Seakeepers is looking for people with boats to add a device to their GPS that will keep a record of where the boat goes This will help Seakeepers track the ocean floor with one of the goals being the verification/updating of Mean Low Water depths on charts...some of which have not been verified for decades.

The small device is provided free of charge by Seakeepers and it is designed to simply plug into a GPS. A micro SD card in the device gets pulled out every 6 months by the boat owner and is simply placed in a computer. This allows the collected data to be downloaded to Seakeepers.,

When it is downloaded, it goes through a proprietary program that adjusts the data for current tide heights at the time and location of the boat travel to arrive at the correct bottom depth,

The Marco Island Police are using the program and have recently had their boats travel in all of the Marco Island canals to get data on current water depth. This will also help with other canal/water quality issues.

All of the Buddy Trips are inshore and back water. The boats all start out together in the morning and fish most of the day. If a person has no boat, I try to match him up with a guy that has one. We start out fishing in the morning and come back to the dock in late afternoon to clean the boats and the fish. In the evening, we all meet with our wives/significant others for cocktails at 6 PM and dinner at 7 PM at various restaurants on Marco. I encourage people to attend the cocktail/dinner party so that everyone gets to know one another. The group consists of a great bunch of anglers, and we all have a lot of fun.

Do not put fish on ruler one at a time. Only entries with three fish on ruler will be counted.
There is no limit to anglers on the boat.
Entry Fee: $20.00 per MSC angler, $30 if you are fishing with your spouse or significant other, $25.00 per non-member, due by no later than the day of Captain's meeting (1/27/2026).

Entry fee includes a chance for prizes and the party at Joe Perino's house at 6 p.m. that night. The fee includes a party for the angler and significant other or a guest.

If the weather is poor and we do not fish, the party goes on no matter what. It will be a cocktail type of party. For those of you who attended in previous years, you will remember that it is not fancy, but the camaraderie is immeasurable.

POLICY Summary

Due to scheduling and caterer contracts, picnics will be held rain or shine (except in the event of named storms).
No refunds will be given for cancellations on the day of the picnic.
A “Who’s Coming” list will be posted on the web prior to the picnic. If your name isn’t on the list contact the host to see if you can still come. DO NOT just show up unannounced.
To facilitate the above and allow proper notification to caterers, the payment deadline is one week prior to the picnic. Take advantage of the club’s online payment system. Online payments instantly get a confirmation e-mail and a receipt.
Payment must be made by the deadline, not in the mail. The final order is confirmed with the caterer the next morning.
The late fee is $5 per/person.
Walk-in fee is $5 (plus $5 late fee).
Guests cost more (other fees above also apply).

CURRENT PICNIC PARKING RULES

Picnics are held at the MICA Sarazen Park (910 Swallow Ave.) and MICA membership is required to park.

Parking on the swales within a mile of South Beach Access or Sarazen Park is not permitted. The current fine is $95.

Typically, MSC kayak trips will last approximately five to six hours and will cover 5 to 7 miles. We vary the venues monthly to give our kayak anglers exposure to different environments, fishing techniques, and species of fish that can be caught.

MSC members who participate in the kayak fishing events own their own kayaks and transport them to and from each venue. Members who do not have experience in kayak fishing but are interested in trying out the sport can sometimes borrow a kayak from a MSC member who has an extra one. Kayaks can also be rented at many different locations in the Marco Island area.

If you are a new member or a current member who is interested in participating in our kayak fishing activities signup to be added to the "Kayak fishing list". The Event Coordinator, Howard Laskau, will keep you informed about upcoming trips.

The past 12 events have been tremendously successful, and we are now planning Baiting Beauties 13. This year’s fishing event will be held Monday, March 2nd - Saturday, March 7th, 2026, and the Awards Picnic will be held on Sunday, March 8th. The picnic will be held from Noon - 3 p.m. at Sarazen Park (rain or shine). MSC will provide the food, water, and soft drinks. Women of all skill levels are invited to participate from complete beginners to women anglers who appear on the Club’s Leaderboard competing with the men. Male/Female Captains and crew will be there to mentor, teach, or just stay of the way! You can bait your own hook and unhook your catch, but it is not required.

Format: Volunteer Captain with a boat, lady angler(s), and crew. Lady Anglers who want to captain their own boat are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to individual anglers based on their catch – this is not a team event. Fishing: CHOOSE one day of fishing -- Monday, March 2nd - Saturday, March 7th, 2026. Captains may choose any 6-hour time period – lines in and lines out.

He is a native Southwest Floridian and enjoys fishing, spearfishing, diving, kayaking and more.

Michael is also an avid aquarist and keeps both fresh and saltwater aquariums.

Fishery Management

She will discuss the state of the fishery in Southwest Florida.

A FWC fisheries and wildlife biologist since 2016, Spurgin graduated in 2014 from Florida State University with a degree in biology/biological sciences. Between 2016 and 2019, she administered the statewide Lionfish Outreach and Control Program for the Division of Marine Fisheries Management.

Since 2019, Kali has been the FWC regional marine biologist serving Southwest Florida.

Kali will be joined by Andie Murray who works as a Wildlife assistant biologist for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Entry Fee: $25 for MSC Anglers, $35 for Non-Members, No entry Fee for Captains.

Deadline to Enter: Friday April 3, 2026

Prizes: Based on # of boats and anglers participating - Six prizes total, top three for each species.

Fish for Grouper…Fish for Snapper…or fish for both if you think you have the game!

Grouper - Total combined length of 3 legal Grouper - any Red, Black, or Gag Grouper.
Snapper - Total combined length of 3 legal Snapper - any Mangrove, Yellowtail, Mutton, or Lane.

Captains Meeting: Friday April 3, 2026 3:00 pm at Crazy Flamingo outside

Remember to declare your fishing day in advance to Jim Scarpa, as well as any changes in crew.

MSC Kayak fishing events are held monthly at a number of different locations throughout Southwest Florida. Typically, MSC kayak trips will last approximately five to six hours and will cover 5 to 7 miles. We vary the venues monthly to give our kayak anglers exposure to different environments, fishing techniques, and species of fish that can be caught.

MSC members who participate in the kayak fishing events own their own kayaks and transport them to and from each venue. Members who do not have experience in kayak fishing but are interested in trying out the sport can sometimes borrow a kayak from a MSC member who has an extra one. Kayaks can also be rented at many different locations in the Marco Island area.

If you are a new member or a current member who is interested in participating in our kayak fishing activities signup to be added to the "Kayak fishing list". The Event Coordinator, Howard Laskau, will keep you informed about upcoming trips.
