President’s Message June 2008
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
On May 12th our Board member Tom Johnson passed away due to complications
from a heart attack. Tom was an active and involved person with our club,
he truly enjoyed the sport. On behalf of the club we extend our condolences
to the Johnson Family. He will be missed by all.
June’s meeting will be very important to all of us. We will have a
physician and nurse speak on medical awareness issue we should know while
out on our boats. Please don’t miss this and bring a friend. Also in June
we will be having our “NO BAIT” tournament. This should prove to be very
interesting and challenging. So all you X-bass fisher people better dust
off your crank and top water baits and see if you still have the touch.
Hopefully at fish-heads some of us will be displaying different types of
plugs and jerk baits that can be used in this situation. If any of you wish
to share you favorite lure please bring it to fish-heads and show people
like me how to fish with tipping or scented baits.
June’s picnic is scheduled for June 25th and we need some people willing to
run the event since Dave Walsh will not be here. Please understand that
summer picnics don’t have to be the big gala affairs that the Walsh’s put
on. Small and simple is fine. So please help out and I guarantee that there
will be tons of helpers.
As you know, club members have wide interests in outdoor sports and, from
time to time, have used club general meetings to make announcements to
assist organizing independent activities ( e.g. scuba diving in the Keys ).
In response to the interest of several members, individuals will be making
announcements at club general meetings relating to organizing sport
shooting, that is sporting clays, trap and skeet. These events will be
independently organized and each will pay his/her own expenses. You may wish
to contact Mike Assaf ( mva34145@hotmail.com ) it you're interested in
participating.
We have some concepts working for the summers meeting. One is “TRUE
CONFESSIONS” where any member who wishes to share their expertise in some
facet of fishing will have the opportunity to speak at the meeting for a
couple of minutes. Like an open mic night. This will be scheduled for July.
Now that dues collection is over, be on the lookout for the final roster for
2008. It will come to you via email if that is what you have chosen to
receive the newsletter or snail mail.
IMPORTANT; Anyone wanting to go on an off shore charter with Jody on the
“Wise Guy” please speak up now. We have openings for the last week of June
for 4 or 6 anglers. The price is $1400 per day to be split up and the
anglers can discuss what they would like to fish for. Should we get a
positive response where there are more that 6 anglers we will get more
boats. This will apply to backwater trips as well. This is a new thing,
the club will try and book charters through the year as long as there are
interested people. Please contact me via email or the cell # on the cover
of the newsletter.
At the price of fuel this is a good idea and further more we SHOULD support
our local professionals.
Remember in this heat, fish early and go to happy hour early!
See ya’ at the bait shop.
Regards,
Peter

Well the season is over, and I think we had a great time! Great picnics,
entertaining meetings, fishing days with lots of participation and not
mention massive consumption of chicken wings at fishtails. The next few
months we will start to work on having an even better year in 2009
The events are far from over in 2008. Coming up next is “SINKO DE LURO” our
2nd annual casting contest to be held at the “Cinco de Mayo” picnic (check
newsletter for details). So start practicing and get ready to go up against
last years winners.
Our backwater day last month shows some promise for the coming months. Big
Mac landed a 33” snook, Jim Mueller’s boat caught snook and trout and my
boat got a red, snook and trout. Things will only get better. Next
backwater trip will be May 5th and that will be captain’s choice.
On May 15th Al Musico (Al) is planning another NITE BITE for snapper. There
will be more information regarding this at FISHEADS on May 1st.
The planning has started for the redfish fall tournament- “SOMETHING’S
FISHY, THE TRILIOGY”. I understand it will be this October. It will be a
team format as before, so start getting in condition for the event. If you
decide not to participate in the fishing portion of this event but will like
to help out in other areas, please let us know because we could use the
help.
Here is the Kingfish Klash report that came from Al:
We had a good turnout for the Kingfish Klash with 6 boats traveling to the
Peg Leg. We had a few runoffs which were probably Kings, but none in the
boat. The day was saved with a bunch of large Lane Snappers, a couple of
keeper Gag Groupers, and Nurse and Lemon Sharks which provided some
excitement. Bryan Mordecai brought a 6 ft Nurse Shark onto the boat and
Frank Sroka discovered that Lemon Sharks take the phrase 'Bite Me' rather
literally. The day was wrapped up with beer, peppers and sausage at Sarazen
Park and a bunch of tired fishermen.
Within a month or two we will sending out our roster, by-laws and budget. If
you currently receive the newsletter electronically we will email you the
files. If you will receive the newsletter through regular mail, we will
mail the stuff to you.
I want to make one final note as the season winds down. As some of our
board members go north we could use help to fill in those positions for a
couple of months. If you feel the urge to help out just let us know.
Remember, be nice to your shrimp and they will be nice to you.
See ya’ at the bait shop.
Regards,
Peter

FISHING WILL ONLY GET BETTER!!
Reports are coming in that fish are showing up more regular and I think
that’s great! Our Sheepshead Shootout was another success. Eight boats
participated and the prize went to two anglers, Dave Rasmussen and Joe
Mealy, who tied with a 20” Sheepshead.
I have been informed that April will bring the KINGFISH CLASH, please stay
tuned for the particulars on this upcoming event
Our Fish of the Month (FOM) for April will be Kingfish for off shore and
Tripletail for backwater.
Please remember to check our leader board for 2008 and use the form to
submit your fish. This year is starting off to be a very productive year.
By I am sure you have all heard the news that the March Madness Trout
Tournament was won by Team Knot-Head, consisting of Jim “High hook” Malerba
and me. Boy, if that doesn’t prove that everyone has an equal chance, than
nothing will.
We have had more special events this year so far than ever in years past,
please send us an email and let us know what you are thinking. We need to
know if we are on the right track. Our goal is for all to get involved and
have fun with the sport of fishing. Your input is important.
Here’s a list of our upcoming happenings:
Naples Kid’s Fishing. It’s not too late call Tom Johnson and volunteer.
Regarding our next meeting, Capt. Jay Peeler, a well know local backwater
guide, will speak at the meeting on April 3rd. The meeting will be the last
chance to bring in you dues for 2008, after that the books are closed.
The will be a picnic on April 16th.
There will be backwater fishing on the 11th.
The Kingfish “CLASH” is on the 17th. The rules are to be announce.
Please remember to check out the article about the mandatory “Reef Gear”
that will be needed effective June 1st. The article is written by Bryan
Fluech our Sea Grant Agent. This may also be a good time to check out any
new fishing regulations that came out January 1, 2008 on the FWC website. We
need to be aware the State is consistently making changes.
Remember, the fish are getting bigger, so always keep on hand on your rod.

Message March 2008
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
I would like to start this message with a big THANK YOU to all that attended
the clinic. We had over 100 people attend and this turned out to be our
best and most informative clinic ever. Not only was the clinic fantastic,
but you folks set a new worlds record for chicken wing consumption at the
post meeting get together, eating 400 chicken wings and 80 hamburgers! I
was also told that there was not a Tums or Rolaids to be found on Marco all
day Friday.
Our dues collection is going well, however there are about 60 members who
haven’t ponyed up. Please take a moment and send in your check. We started
our billing cycle late this year due to the change in the format and we need
to get back on track. If you forgot whether or not you paid, just email me
or Tony Saputo and we will let you know. Our deadline is MARCH 31ST. Don’t
miss out on being a part of one of the best organizations in SW Florida. If
you need information on whether or not you paid just call me or Tony S.
As I am writing this I just received a message from the Fishing Committee
and they have come up with an intra-club tournament called “Marco Madness
Spotted Trout Tournament” scheduled for March 11th and it is for members
only (2008 dues must be paid). I understand the rules are on the web and
signup will start immediately and the last day to sign up will be at the
Captains meeting on March 10th. I don’t know about you but I am gassing up
my boat as well as myself and getting ready to go. Let’s have a big turnout
and tons of fun.
Captains who need anglers please let it be known so match-ups can begin
There has been a correction to the picnic day in March. The “Taste of
Ireland” will be on March 26th along with the Leader Board Awards for 2007.
You better sign up now.
Our Backwater trip for February produced a couple of trout, Spanish
Mackerel, one Pompano and Bob McGuire’s giant Jack. I have also been
informed that fishing will only get better with the improving weather
conditions so let’s keep trying.
Please remember the CCA banquet in March 7th and we filled one table so far
and still have more to go. Team Ocean is still signing up volunteers so if
you’re interested contact Myron Whittlin or me. Tom Johnson is also
accepting volunteers for Naples Kid’s Fishing Day, there will be 2
opportunities to help, one day rigging rods or one day at the event.
We have had tremendous participation from all of you and I hope the momentum
will continue, so buck up and go fishing.
Remember now that the warm spring days are approaching rapidly; bring your
own cozy to happy hour.
See ya at the Bait shop

IT’S CLINIC TIME!! FEBRUARY 7th THURSDAY
This February’s meeting will offer a fishing clinic second to none.
Our business meeting will start real early at
5:40 PM and
the Clinic will start at
6:00 PM.
We will need to do this so all of you can visit the different tables and
gain as much knowledge as possible.
Here are some examples of the subjects we cover: boat maintenance after a
day of fishing, computer navigation with our website and email, offshore and
backwater terminal tackle, backwater chart reading, boat safety and lets not
forget the renown SEAWEED TACKLE display, just to name a few.
DON’T MISS THIS and BE THERE EARLY.
December’s fishing trips were pretty good. Al Musico and his band of pirates
did well off shore with a mixed bag of lanes and grouper and few goliaths.
Tommy J and his mosquito fleet struggled from the beginning. The first
problem was the lowest tide of the year and many of us could not get off the
lift until mid morning. Once we got to fishing we caught Pompano, trout,
Spanish Macks and of course lady fish.
I would like to mention that Al and Tom are doing a tremendous job with our
fishing days and we never had so much participation as we do now. Also
thanks to all the Captains who run their boats in these events. Let’s keep
the enthusiasm going.
This new year will bring changes to how the club will be run and I would
like to share with you the method. The Board is broken up into 3 basic
committees: fishing, social and meeting. Each committee is totally
responsible for all events that occur within their area. For example, the
fishing committee will handle all fishing events and including tournaments,
the social will operate all picnics and luncheons. The meeting committee is
responsible for guest speakers or anything that goes on at the meetings.
The committee members are made up of board members and the general
membership. You can help out for an event or stay on for the year its up to
you. Just contact one to the committee chairs and let your intention be
known. The chairmen are as follows: FISHING - AL MUSICO, SOCIAL - DAVE
WALSH AND THE MEETING - NEWT WESS.
Our goal is to have fun, so consider jumping in and join us.
Things to remember:

One final blast, SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9TH, we will have a backwater day.
Hopefully this will allow those who are busy during the week to participate.
FEBRUARY 20RD will be our 3rd annual FebBREWfest catered by Peppers. Don’t
even think of missing this one!
Finally, if anyone is having problem or questions regard the internet or
getting the newsletter please let us know ASAP so we can correct it.
This year is shaping up to be a blast, so get new line on your fishing reels
and get ready!
Your know its winter when you have to wear a long sleeve shirt to happy
hour. So, turn off the TV, get a sweatshirt and go fishing!

President’s Message January 2008
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
Here we go, another year starts and this year is shaping up to be a better
year than the last for our club. Our membership is at 240 and growing and
the participation in fishing and picnic events is also growing.
At December’s meeting we had almost 80 people and were able to vote on the
dues issue. It was a unanimous decision to have the modest increase. Ed
Crane reported that 50% of the people who paid their dues so far have opted
for getting their newsletter electronically.
As of January 1, 2008 those who chose the electronic newsletter will no
longer receive the printed copy. If you should you change your mind during
the year just let us know and you will again receive the printed version for
a $10 fee.
Prior to January 1 there will be an email explaining the procedure for
retrieving the newsletter off the computer from Ed Crane. We are trying to
put together a seminar about how to work with our website and some topics on
using email. I thought this maybe helpful since I know there are members
like myself who could use a little help with this computer stuff. If you
would be interested in this please let us know and we will get it planed
quickly.
The speaker in January will be Don Robb. You may know him from Sunshine Ace
Hardware. He offers free seminars throughout the year at the store. He loves
to fish and knows his stuff.
February will be the month that we will have a fishing clinic. This clinic
will offer tables teaching us knots both for boating and fishing, types of
equipment needed for backwater and gulf, rigging of tackle and baits and
tons more. Don’t miss this and bring a friend.
Speaking of clinics, I know we have some real talent out there in the
membership. We could use a hand at the clinic tables. So if you have a
specific talent and want to share it, let us know. Help your fellow club
members.
Upon your approval, our new board members will start their roles during the
month of January. We have structured the board a little differently this
year. We have a few basic committees which will be responsible for the
following: Social, Meeting and Fishing events. With a membership that is
growing, each of these committees could use help from time to time. Please
help out and get involved: it’s also a great way to meet your fellow
members.
You will notice that in the newsletter we published a schedule for classes
offered by the Power Squadron. Whether you are a new or seasoned boater
these short classes are VERY helpful. Take advantage of them. I have and
will continue to do so.
Remember, your shrimp get smaller in the winter See ya’ at the bait shop.

President’s Message December 2007
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!
The cold fronts have started and the fishing is going into their late fall/
winter pattern.
I have been told the Kingfish, Mackerel and Bonita are all over the place
and only a mile or two offshore. I received reports from club members that
the grouper fishing has improved and our guys are bringing home keepers. So
grab a sweatshirt and get off the couch; its time to fish!
December will bring a close to a fun year and we will begin gearing up for
2008. First off, several Board member’s leave because their terms are up.
We will be replacing them with the three following people: Jim Mueller, Bert
Hoell and Tony Saputo.
I would like to acknowledge the departing and current Board members for
their hard work to improve this club and make it a real fishing club with
real fishing events. I expect 2008 will bring more fun and exciting events
for the entire family.
By the time you get this newsletter there will be less than 30 days to get
the big fish and get on the leader board. Remember you must call or email
Seaweed with the size of the fish. Please don’t wait till the meeting and
tell him..
We are planning a fishing Clinic for the January meeting, if there is
something you are a good at and are willing to teach, let us know we need
volunteers to help out at the clinic. Also if there is a topic you would
like covered let us know ASAP and we will make an effort to have someone
teach it.
It’s your input that will let us know what to do to make the clinic more
effective. Here are some examples of what we need: knots- both fishing and
boating, equipment offshore and backwater, artificial bait and how to rig,
trolling techniques, basic motor maintenance, casting, etc.
One last thing, as I was writing this, I received a phone call informing me
that a friend, fishing buddy and club member has passed away. Jarvis Roper
died on November 16th. He will be missed by all of us. My condolences go
to the Roper Family.
Remember, keep bait on your hook and a beer in your hand.
The new Dues proposal will be as follows:
$40 per year for family membership
$10 one time charge for new members for setup
$10 DISCOUNT should the member choose to receive the newsletter online
Every family membership will be entitled to ONE vote per family
See ya’ at the bait shop.

THERE IS AN IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR THE OCTOBER GENERAL MEETING.
IT WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 11
One week later than normal due to scheduling conflicts. BE SURE TO MARK YOUR
CALENDAR.
The President's Message
Well by now the humidity should be on its way out and the fantastic fall
fishing is on its way in, so don't screw around, go fishing!
October will also be the month the luncheons start back up. Dave & Susie
Walsh will be back in command of the picnics. Don't delay. Sign up and
enjoy the fun.
As most of you know, October is the beginning of our dues billing cycle.
Because we are proposing a change in the dues structure, we will not be
billing until there is a vote on the dues proposal. We are hoping that a
quorum of at least 60 people turnout for the November meeting so we can
hold a vote.
At September's meeting I had a member ask how he can get a fishing partner
quickly for a tarpon trip. I gave this some thought and said let's email
the membership and see if anyone is interested. That member composed a note
indicating what he was looking for and sent it on to be broadcast. Low and
behold within hours he was hooked up with a fishing buddy. So if you need
to go fishing, write me a note about what you are looking for (ie: backwater
or gulf, have a boat or need one, willing to split expenses, etc.) and I
will get it broadcast and hopefully it will work for you. Also, if you are
going out on a particular day and wouldn't mind other boats going along,
just send an email to me and I will let everyone know.
This year Mike Levine will head up our search committee for new board
members. If you are an individual who is willing to work on a board made up
of enthusiastic, energetic people whose goal is to make MSC the most sought
after fishing club in Southwest Florida, contact Mike and let him know. We
already have ideas for 2008 and could use a few great people.
SEE YOU AT THE MEETING
ON OCTOBER 11TH.
Remember: during the rainy season bring an umbrella to happy hour. Pete A
President's message, Sept, 2007
Peter Arcidiacono, President 394-1136 peterarchie@comcast.net
As far as I am concerned there is no such thing as the "Dog Days of Summer"
when it comes to the M.S.C. Why?
Check this out! Two Leader Board entries were smashed and replaced by a
47" kingfish caught by none other than "Mr. Kingfish", Frank Sroka. Also,
a whopping 35" permit that Jerry Collins sniped off John Cavanagh's spot.
Other anglers reported catching 40" kings, monster 40 lb. plus permit
busting tackle and goliath grouper chomping down on 36" snook. The No Bait
event was a little slow although a few reds and snook were landed. I would
say fishing is very good.
At the August, meeting our bonus speaker Richard Hatcher, from the Coast
Guard Auxiliary, gave a briefing on Homeland Security protecting our
coastline. Because of the extreme importance of this issue, an extended
presentation will be given at the January or February meeting. The ever
popular and informative Jason Travis from Trapper Marine gave some great
insight into the benefits of using additives in fuel-injected engines.
Thank you both for the information.
Thank you Perry London and Ed Vesely for helping run the Blue Hole raffle
ticket sales over the last several months.
Time is running out! September is the month for our club's signature
tournament, our main event! If you are considering entering the "Something
Fishy 2" tournament, you need to register now! Whether you have a team, if
you are a captain looking for an angler or an angler looking for a captain,
sign up so we can get a firm tally.
Non-contestants who are planning to attend the awards picnic on Saturday 29
Sep 07 must also sign up: now! We need to know everyone's intentions.
Entry and picnic fees are now being accepted. The cutoff for registration
will be at the September 6 club meeting.
We need a crew of volunteers to help with the awards picnic. A picnic
co-coordinator, food and beer runners just to mention a few. Look on the
web site for a list of volunteer jobs that need to be covered.
Seriously, think about it, four or five members cannot handle this event by
themselves. Let's pull together as the premier club on Marco. Let's make
this tournament the best ever. Make me proud!
At the 6 P.M. "Fish Heads" meeting in September we will finalize the
development of the Red and Blue teams, collect entry and picnic fees and set
in place the picnic/grounds crew assignments.
I would like to thank Gene Stillwell for all his past efforts running the
Fish Tails get-together's. At the latest gathering, Gene turned in his
resignation and the Vice President of the M.S.C accepted it.
In closing, remember to support your local hookers, get active in the M.S.C.
For President Pete by Seaweed.
President’s Message August 2007
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
First off I would like to thank Seaweed for covering
the meeting while I have been away. The poor guy already works his butt off.
Well I understand we had our first NITE BITE and Mother
Nature decided to throw a wrench in it. Although the event got a tad
screwed up with the weather our participants went fishing the next day. No
snapper, but permit and cobia. I have been informed by Al M. we will be
doing this again.
Our next event will be the NO BAIT TOURNAMENT. For
those who would like to participate in this it will be a friendly contest
for “bragging rights” and will be held on a SATURDAY, so those who are
obligated during the week can now fish. Seaweed will have all the rules.
We need a person to coordinate the clip board for the
NO BAIT day, so please contact a board member if you would like to help (WE
COULD USE THE HELP, WE ARE SHORT HANDED IN THE SUMMER).
SOMETHING FISHY 2 is off and running. Register NOW and
be a part of this big event.
Here are a few words regarding SOMETHING’S 2 FISHY from
Seaweed. With the SOMETHING FISHY 2 Tournament just 2 months away,
registration is now open. Whether you already have a partner or need one,
you need to sign up A.S.A.P. Our target this year is 20 boats; we are trying
to gauge how many boats and anglers to expect. I highly encourage all
anglers with a boat and no partner to sign up.
There are many anglers who will need a ride. If your
thinking that because of your experience level that you do not stand a
chance to win; think again! This is a team event and everyone’s redfish
will count toward determining the winning team even if you do not catch one
you can still win cash!
All captains and anglers participating in this event
will receive the following: an invitation to the captain’s meeting with a
few pitchers of brew to wash down some appetizers, a 2 for 1 meal ticket for
the awards picnic, BLUE HOLE raffle
tickets for all anglers and door prizes. Again, you don’t even have to catch
a fish. This is three days of entertainment for $50.00 such a deal!
One last word and I know its early, but we will be
looking for new board members this fall, EITHER MEN OR WOMEN (if we had a
couple of women on the board we might get organized and be even better).
Think about it, let one of us know you are interested
please. We have a great club; let’s continue to make it better!
Please remember in this heat; only go to an air
conditioned happy hour establishment.
See ya around the mangroves,
Peter Arcidiacono
PS. Please send any comments regarding the proposed
dues increase to me. I would like to know how members feel about it.
President’s Message July, 2007
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
It’s mid year already! But the best is yet to come.
Fishing has picked up so much that even I am catching
fish. Now you know that’s good fishing!
Our pre-meeting chat session has really caught on.
During the June meeting Frank Renkel had everyone’s attention while
explaining the successful ways of snapper fishing. That will be very useful
for the “NITE BITE” coming in the end of June. I understand we have quite a
few boats and anglers signed up and if you haven’t sign up yet just call Al
Musico and get on board.
Speaking of the chat session, this coming month Al
Musico will be prepping those of us getting ready for the “SHARK-O-RAMA”
that will be on July 19th. Please remember the chat session is
for anyone who wants to show up early and just “BS” about any type of
fishing. This way no one stays late after the meeting and have it cut into
fishtails.
We had our first committee meeting for “SOMETHING FISHY
2” and things are shaping up. Registration has started and it’s time to
find a captain and boat if needed or get an angler. If you want to fish
this big event use email to find a partner or a boat. There will be lots of
information at the July chat session. I will tell you a little about the
tournament. This will be a team event with hopefully at least 10 boats per
side. The teams will be picked randomly at the captain’s meeting before the
tournament. This will give ALL participants, regardless of skill, an equal
chance to bring home the gold. The entry fee is $50.00 per angler and a full
disclosure of how the money will be used will be at the July meeting. 100%
will be given back to the participants in prizes and food. This is our
signature event. DON’T MISS IT, FISH I! All members and
guests will have an opportunity to attend the awards ceremony and that
information will be forth coming.
Interested in a fishing charter? Let me know and I will
help to organize it. I believe we should use our local professional guides
periodically; they will help us to improve our fishing skills.
Just last week Jim Mueller and I took a backwater trip.
We went way down by the Broad River and caught a lot of big snook. We both
felt it was worth the cost of a guide.
Let’s keep the pictures coming in and show off our
catch.
So grab your shrimp and let’s go fishing
See ya’ at happy hr,
Peter Arcidiacono
PS. Please send any comments regarding the proposed
dues increase to me. I would like to know how members feel about it.
President’s Message June 2007
Peter Arcidiacono 394-1136
peterarchie@comcast.net
Summer has arrived and the only people left on Marco
are some fishermen and fisherwomen and a whole bunch of fish. We have some
very good reports on backwater and gulf fishing so take a minute and look at
the pictures.
We are in our summer mode now which means no more
luncheons till the Fall and hopefully we can gang up with other clubs for
picnics. The more the merrier.
Although our forces have been cut in half we still have
tons of stuff going on the next few weeks. June 12th will be
Dave Walsh’s last picnic before he goes North so t is a must go. All are
invited to the June 13th FISH ANYWHERE DAY and Porky’s for dinner
(separate checks). Don’t forget to bring you catch.
June 28 is “THE NITE BITE”. Sign up with your boat or
go with other boats to fish the full moon for snappers at night. At the
June meeting during the Chat session from 6pm to 7pm I understand Frank
Renkel will be explaining the proper way to snapper fish and he will
recommend what stuff is needed.
I would like to give a special thanks to the volunteers
for the Kid’s Fishing Day; it’s a good thing when we can find the time to
help others. There is still time to get on board, just call me.
WE NEED HELP! This summer we only have 3 picnics and
we could use a couple of people to help with them as well as to help out
with some of the other fishing events. Please remember the Board is working
for you and your enjoyment so please find it within yourself to get
involved. Just let a Board member know you are interested.
This is important. The board has discussed and put
together a plan to raise dues. The reason for this is to off set 2
increases of postal rates plus printing cost increases. Also, future events
will be incurring costs of food and prizes and we intend on passing more
items back to the membership and participants.
The plan is as follows:
1. The annual dues will be $40.00 per family. For
example, when I pay the $40 it will include my wife as a full member, name
tag and all.
2. There will be a $10.00 discount off the $40 should
you opt to receive the newsletter electronically (email) only. No printed
copy.
3. And finally, if you are a new member all above
applies for the first year and there will be a $10 “Setup” or initiation
fee.
I believe this is a fair proposal. I hope all of you
agree and will cast you ballot when the time comes for the vote in
September.
Remember, clip those redfish fins and I will store them
in my bait freezer. Just call me and we will make arrangements to get them.
Stay well, stay cool, keep your shrimp out of the sun.

April was an action packed month. The meeting
with Gina Russo from the State of Florida was very interesting and
informative. She helped us to realize how complex it can be to raise
and turn loose redfish. Then we had our 1st membership
drive booth at Walker’s 25th anniversary open house and finely
our bus trip to the Pursuit Factory in Fort Pierce. The people
at Pursuit could not have been more hospitable and helpful when it came to
questions on their production line. I would like to thank Jim Walker
for giving us the invitation to do it.
A special thanks goes out to Felix of Felix Marine for
donating a 20’ detail job for our 50/50-raffle. That’s a prize worth $200!
At our meeting Gina gave fin clipping kits to us so we
can get fin samples of the reds we catch and send them to her so she can get
feedback from her work. I will gladly keep everyone’s clipping and
insure they get to the proper person until we are informed of the official
drop stations. Just call me and we will arrange to meet
(239-821-7499). It is important that we do our part in this redfish
restoration project as we are a force of 233 people who fish and support the
recreational fishing program in Florida and all of us want to see it get
better. DON’T FORGET TO CLIP THE FIN.
Should anyone need information on how to do it or need
a kit, please call me and I will get you one.
It’s kingfish time! I understand May 8th
is the day for the King tournament so get your crew together and sign up.
Early information can be obtained from Seaweed or Frank Sroka (phone #’s on
cover).
There will also be a registration table at the general
meeting. Don’t be a lump, fish the hump!
Word has it there will be two more tourneys this year,
a shark and our 2nd annual “SOMETHING FISHY”. So start planning
now. Work will begin at the end of April for the Something Fishy
tourney.
We need committee members for the tournament, people to
help out on land with food, and people to help get sponsors. LET’S ALL WORK
TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS TOURNAMENT A BIG SUCCESS!. Contact Seaweed if
you would like to help in any capacity.
We started a new thing last month at our meeting. We
had an after-meeting BS session before the meeting and it worked well. So we
will open the doors at 6.00 PM for those who want to talk fishin’, be it
Gulf or Backwater. Bring you charts and lets help each other.
We have another new idea which is to get together for a
charter, either backwater or gulf. If interested, please contact me, Pete,
by email or phone, and I will arrange for it. We need 2 people for
backwater and 4 for gulf—so come on, lets go fishing!
May’s meeting will provide information on the proper
way to vent fish, this important for all you deep water fishermen.
Remember Clip the fin of a redfish not your finger

Spring is here and the fishing should really turn on!
So, what are you waiting for? Call a buddy and go fishing.
Once again Dave and Susie Walsh produced an outstanding
St. Patty’s Day picnic and 80 people attended. We had a fun casting contest
as well. The contest was a big hit and there were lots of
participation and lots of laughs. I am proud to announce our World
Champion Caster is Jim Mueller. Jim won some pretty nice prizes- a
fishing rod and tackle bag. I am sure there will be many more people
looking to oust Jim’s reign as casting king at the next event.
Speaking of contests and events, I would like to
acknowledge Dave “Seaweed” Totos. Believe it or not it takes quite a bit of
work to develop, plan and implement these little added attractions to an
already great event. Seaweed puts 110% into this club and I would like
him to know it does not go unnoticed. Dave is currently working on our
intra-club tournament, SOMETHING FISHY 2, to be held in the fall. He is
looking for committee members and tournament help. So please let him know if
you interested because this event will take a couple of months of planning.
At our meeting in April we will have a speaker from the
Florida Fish and Wildlife who will explain to us their redfish restoration
project. This will be very informative and interesting. We are
inviting other clubs and some of the local guides. The meeting will
start at regular time 7:00 PM so please don’t be late.
Seaweed has lined up Bryan Fluech the Collier County
Sea Grant Extension Agent for the May meeting to instruct us on the proper
way to vent fish that we catch to insure a better survival rate. This is
going to be a good one for all of us who fish off shore.
I need to apologize to Werner Wackerman for not
recording his 27 1/2” yellow tail back in December. I am also
correcting the 2006 leader board and installing Werner as the winner of that
species.
Stay tuned to the website or newsletter for upcoming
fishing events and contests. I hear that we may have a kingfish tourney, so
get ready.
As always, your ideas for events, fundraisers, or for
general betterment of the club are always appreciated.
DON’T FORGET to purchase Marco Sportfishing Club hats
and shirts before you go north. They make great gifts for all occasions.
Remember, keep your shrimp out of the sun.

Wow! What a meeting we had last month. It was a
big success mainly due to our local vendors who took their personal time to
attend. I would like to thank each of them: Peter O’Brien from Marco
River Marina, Paula of Paula’s Place, Jarred of Sunshine Ace, Henry Lowe of
Lowe’s Marine, Byron of Angler’s Answer, Frank of Capt. Choice Chum, Kathy
of Marco Adventures, Doug Baldwin of Marco Marine Fueling, Capt. Bill Jones
of Make a Memory Charters, and Jason of Trapper Marine. Please remember to
stop in their places of business and support and thank them for supporting
of us.
Aside from our members selling great “Experienced”
equipment we had Seaweed with his traveling display, Andy Battaglia
representing the Power Squadron, and Frank Sroka selling our fine line of
clothing.
My last thanks goes to YOU our membership for showing
up with a buying attitude and being the last piece of the puzzle to make it
a great show!
Let’s get on to March. It’s TOURNAMENT TIME
again. This time it is the SPRING CLASSIC. This event will be for
members only with 2 person teams and will be held on March 20th.
The prizes will be paid out to the boat with the most points. Entry fee
will be $25.00 per person and 100% of the money to be paid out in prizes.
The rules will follow on a separate communication. So if you don’t
have a boat, then get a Captain and if you have a boat, get an angler.
The registration form is in this newsletter or if needed call Seaweed or
Newt Weiss (phone #’s on cover page).
Our Meeting will be on March 1st and we will
have SEATOW come and speak to us, I expect this to be helpful and
informative. April we will have Ms. Gina Russo from the FWC and her
topic will be on “Fisheries Stock Enhancement in Florida”, so mark you
calendars.
You will be noticing a change in our newsletter. We
will not be printing the
leader board every month but rather once a quarter, however it will be
on the website and updated weekly to give us up to date information
Your board is working hard to bring fun activities to
you and more of them. Don’t be shy, volunteer to help committees for events,
picnics and contests at the picnics, tournaments etc. If you are interested
please see Seaweed or myself.
Your ideas and comments on how the club is doing and
what should be done are always welcome. Please send them.
The weather is getting nicer, so stop screwing around,
call a buddy and going fishing!
Sign up for the SPRING CLASSIC.
Remember, live bait is better than dead bait and dead
bait is better than no bait.

February ‘07 and we should be at full swing by now!
I have been hearing that the fishing in the Gulf is picking up (when the
weather permits). So what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone, make
arrangements with a buddy, go fishing and take pictures (we need them).
This month starts our busy season and the new Board is
off and running to try and make it a great one. To start with, our
picnic- the “FEBREWFEST 2” is back by popular demand. You can’t miss it! At
this picnic we will be presenting the awards for the annual fish tournament.
Support your club and cheer on the winners.
At our general meeting on FEBRUARY 1ST, WITH
A SPECIAL START TIME OF 6:00 PM, we are having our third “experienced” and
new equipment sale called DEAL OR NO DEAL. Bring some cash and be prepared
for some great deals on fishing stuff! As of the 2nd week
in January we have commitments from new tackle vendors to display and sell
top quality stuff at very appealing prices. IF YOU WANT OR NEED
FISHING EQUIPMENT, SHOW UP FEB 1 AT 6:00 PM.
The March meeting event is still up in the air. If you
have an idea, email or call a Board member and we will do our best to pull
it off.
I would like to mention what is in the works for the
coming months. Seaweed is working on an intra-club tournament to be
held ASAP so all could participate. This type of event is not so easy
to do alone and he needs help (in more ways that one). Volunteers are needed
for the following: cooking at picnics, helping with record keeping and
finances, figuring out prizes and a few others. Whether you fish or
not, its fun to participate.
Speaking of volunteers, we are looking for a couple of
special people to work with a Board member to determine a fund raising
project. WE REALLY COULD USE YOUR HELP. If you are interested, just
contact a Board member.
Our picnics should have an added flare. We are planning
to have casting contests with prizes or bocce tournaments. Dave Walsh
suggested lawn darts, but that was immediately turned down. Way too
much beer! Someone will end up going home with an embedded lawn dart
somewhere.
I announced at the last meeting that the FISH OF THE
MONTH for February would be sheepshead and I was wrong (can you believe it).
The correct species is SEATROUT. Sorry for the confusion. So just for
clarification, the January FISH OF THE MONTH IS SHEEPSHEAD (for which there
is a $50. gift certificate as a prize) and February will be SEATROUT (that
will be $25 prize providing someone wins Jan.)
Would you like to go to the Miami Boat Show? If
so, contact Larry Block, President of Naples Fishing Club, and sign up for
the bus trip. Leave all the driving hassles behind and have a good time.
Larry can be emailed at
larry@blockandblock.com or call 239-455-2801; it will be Sunday Feb 18.
OK, I’m done; see you all on the 1st

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
Here starts a new year and it will
bring some changes to our club.
One of the changes will be four
new board members upon your acceptance at the January meeting. They
are Tom Johnson, Newton Weiss, Al Musico and Bob Schuh. Please welcome
them and let them know you would be willing to help with their club
functions.
As for the departing board
members, Ed Brown and Mike Levine, I would personally like to thank them for
their work and support. Its people like these that make our organization
special.
There are two existing board
members up for reelection; they are Perry London and I. So if all of
you don’t mind we will give it another shot
I hope all of you that attended
our December meeting had an opportunity to visit our apparel table. For
those who didn’t make it we now have hats, tee shirts and you can order
embroider Colombia shirts.
Congratulations to Joe Cafferelli
for being the first winner of our species of the month contest!
Remember December is sheepshead and call you catch in to Seaweed.
December is the final month for
the annual fishing tournament. Make sure you call in your big fish if
you want to qualify for the award
January’s meeting we will have
Wright Taylor from the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and he will
discuss the Florida Fisheries, I expect this to be very informative.
I have been informed by Dave Walsh
that the upcoming picnics for January and February will be a show stopper!
January’s picnic will be catered by Chief’s Express and February will be
“Febrewfest II” catered by Peppers.
Please remember, we are always
looking for new ideas to better this club, if you have an idea let us know.
On behalf of the board we would
like to wish all of you a Healthy and Happy New Year!
Remember, you can’t catch from the
couch (unless your couch is on the dock)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!
Welcome back to those of you who just returned. You are in for good fishing
and lots of fun.
Once again I thank our members who helped out with the tournament: Gene
Stillwell, Tim and Joan Kenny for putting together a great awards picnic and
Mike Levine who was our statistician for the event.
For those not here, our tournament was a tremendous success! We had
lots of participation and tons of fun. If you haven't done so already,
check out the pictures on our web site (www.marcofishingclub.com). We
are currently working on another tournament to be held in a couple of
months.
December is Pompano Month! The largest pompano that is caught and
called into Seaweed gets the prize: a $25.00 gift certificate. Please
remember, in case of a tie, the 1st fish called in wins. Only call in
a fish that is at least the minimum legal size. If no
fish-of-the-month is caught, the prize will be rolled to the next month.
Please keep in mind that the event planned for February is DEAL OR NO DEAL.
If any member wants to sell "experienced" fishing or small boating
equipment sign up and get a table reserved. Our previous tag sales
have been a success and we expect no less from this one. The meeting
on that day will start early, so stay tuned for additional information as it
develops. ANY MEMBER WANTING INFO OR TO RESERVE A TABLE CALL PETE A., RON G.
OR SEAWEED.
We are currently selling hats and shirts. If you would like one contact our
quartermaster Frank Sroka either by email or phone.
We need more pictures! I can no longer stand seeing John Cavanagh with
those monster fish on our web site home page. Someone PLEASE catch a
big fish and mail in the photo.
Check out our website, www.marcofishingclub.com
It is DUES time again. December is the final month. A dues
invoice is included here. Please pay now, thanks.
As always, comments and suggestions are welcomed
Notice: the speaker for our December meeting is Capt Ken Chambers who
will be briefing us on backwater fishing during the winter months.
On behalf of the Board we would like to wish all of you a healthy and happy
holiday season.
Remember, the weather is getting cooler, wear a sweater to happy hour.
GO FISHING! Peter Arcidiacono
President's Message, November

WELCOME BACK to all our members who are returning from their summer
get-a-ways. It's great to see you again! Hopefully you will find the
events and speakers that we have planned over the next few months
interesting and fun.
Last month we had a cast net demonstration. Lots of people attended,
lots of people tried. Hence, we will have another demonstration later
during the season. A special thanks goes to cast net demonstrators,
Capt Mike from "Pro-Fish-In-Sea" and Jared from Sunshine Ace Hardware.
Not only did Sunshine Ace Hardware donate their time, but they donated the
cast net they were using in the demonstration to our raffle, which is an
eighty dollar value.
Something else is new. As you know we have not had great participation
with our gulf fishing trips, therefore we have not given the $25 dollar
award for the largest fish for a while. So, starting in November we
will give an award for the largest fish caught in a specific species.
Each month the species will be different. The award will be given out at the
next general meeting. The award may come as a gift certificate or a
check. We intend on mixing it up. In case of a tie the award
will go to the first fish caught and reported. You can monitor the progress
on the website throughout the month. Your catch should be called into
Dave "Seaweed" or emailed to him (see cover of newsletter for number and
email). THE FISH FOR NOVEMBER IS LANE SNAPPER . Start fishing for them
NOVEMBER 1st. Good luck to all. Remember pictures will be appreciated.
This time of year we start looking for candidates to join our board and help
us make this an even better fishing club. Please step forward and let us
know of your interest. We can always use good people.
The November meeting will be a clinic with knots, rigs, jigs, equipment etc.
It will start at 6:30 PM. Don't miss this one! In December
we are going to have guide Capt Ken Chambers tell us where all the fish are
and how to catch them in the backwater.
We are planning a big, new and experienced equipment sale called "DEAL OR NO
DEAL". This will be held at the February meeting, so gather your stuff,
sign up for a table and get ready to deal. Not only will we have our
members selling, but, we are on the hunt for outside vendors willing to
offer us fishing equipment at a savings. As additional information
comes in I will broadcast the updates via email.
Your comments on how things are going is always appreciated. This is your
club and your board wants to make it better. Get involved.

IT’S ON!! SOMETHING
FISHY, the North vs. South Fishing tournament on October 13th.
Admiral John Cavanagh
is looking for more Captains and anglers for his North team as well as
Admiral Pete A for the South. So, if you want to participate as a
Captain (person with boat) or an angler, please call, email or whatever to
get registered. If you are an angler with no specific boat, we will
help you get on a boat. Remember, only $10.00 per person. There will
be prizes and food at the awards picnic scheduled for October 14 at Sarazen
Park. Our membership and spouses are invited. Food will be free and only
$3.00 per person for beer or wine. Please call or use our website to email
Mike L (see event page of newsletter) to register for the picnic.
One last word on the
Tournament. If you are participating, please stay in contact
with your admiral for rules and regulations of the event and the date of the
captain & angler meeting.
November 4th we were
invited to the blessing of the fleet by the Cruise Club with a raft up
afterwards, please contact Ron Gordon for the particulars.
Our monthly picnics
and luncheons will start up again in October, with a “bring your own meat”
on 10/23/06 and the luncheon at Cracklin’ Jacks. Keep an eye on the
newsletter for the times and particulars.
At our general
meeting in November we will have a fishing clinic with equipment, tackle,
and knots just to name a few. Next month will be net throwing. If
there is anything special you would like to see at the clinic please make
the request early.
Finally, we are in
the planning stages of our next tag sale. I expect it to be in January or
February, so start gathering that fishing and boating equipment you no
longer need and get it ready for sale.
Please notice the
dues invoice in the newsletter. Now is a great time to renew before the
rush!!
Remember, baiting

BIG NEWS!!
As I write this newsletter Ed Crane is in the process of completing the
finishing touches on our new web site. As he develops an address, it will
soon be broadcasted to the membership.
As for fishing, the few of us left on Marco are doing okay! Ed Vesely and
Pete Gottfried are always consistent in the back water with snook and reds.
I took a trip with Capt. Dick Larson and his crew and we ended up with 3
grouper (believe it or not) and a big king caught by Bob Hansen, who is now
the leader in that category.
Seaweed (Dave Totos) is working tirelessly on our upcoming tournament. The
tournament will take place on October 11 and will be a backwater event. An
out line of the rules will follow shortly .The format of this event will be
the North against the South. Each team will have an “Admiral” in charge. The
basic responsibility for the admiral is communication with the boats on his
team. If you would like to be the Admiral please call Seaweed or me. We are
accepting entry applications now, please call or email Seaweed or myself,
this is going to be fun, so sign up now!
Our Club was invited to the Naples Fishing Club meeting on August 15 to
listen to a speaker talk about swordfishing off of Miami. Capt. Dean Panos
explained the equipment and the methods used and informed us that the
swordfishery is doing very well only 20 miles off Miami.
The following are the upcoming events. September we have a speaker from
Standing Watch, October will be cast netting (done by us ), and November
will be a clinic. If you have an idea or would like to see something
specific at the clinic LET US KNOW. We are constantly trying to find new and
interesting things to bring to the table. Also, if you have a particular
talent or skill you would like to share with the membership at the clinic,
just drop a line.
We are considering a couple of changes to the meeting format. Through
conversation I have found out that many of you take charters from time to
time. If you would like to take a charter, either backwater or off shore,
let us know and we will announce it at the meeting to see who would like to
go and split the cost.
In closing, please keep in mind that we always looking for a few good people
to help us make our club better. If you are one of those people please
contact a board member.
Hold on to your rod at all times
